“Far From Home” virtual concert
Join KYO on our journey to far-off lands, in our inaugural virtual concert! Featuring ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ by Paul Dukas and ‘Symphony No. 9’ by Antonin Dvořák, conducted by Neil Thompson, both the young and the young at heart will appreciate the orchestral magic throughout these iconic tunes.
Famously set to animation in Disney’s ‘Fantasia’, Dukas’ tone poem depicts the predicament a young sorcerer lands in, after attempting to use magic in an attempt to finish chores without hard work. The ‘New World Symphony’ evokes Dvořák’s experiences in North America, using inspiration from Native and African American folk songs and the ‘wide-open’ prairie landscapes, resulting in one of the world’s most recognisable masterpieces.
Given that 2020 has been a debacle, KYO has been extremely lucky in the fact that we have been able to come together, with every imaginable COVID precaution in place. Although these precautions mean that we haven’t been able to have a live audience at the recording of our socially distanced concert, we hope you enjoy our playing, from the comfort of your own device!
